Gastonia 2002

The Gastonia Model Builders Club show was held on March 9th, 2002 at Belmont Abbey College in Belmont, NC. Overall attendance for this show was good for a local contest. Genre categories of interest to CultTVman readers were:

Real Space
Science Fiction Vehicles
Science Fiction and Fantasy Figures

Vendor action was minimal, down from previous shows, and science fiction wares were pretty much not to be found. Car kit vendors, and Victory Models excellent selection of primarily aircraft accessories and decals were the highlights.

The contest was held in Belmont Abbeys large gym, providing lots of space and bleacher seating. The lighting was very dim for a model show, adding difficulty to judging. I'm sorry I do not have a winners list. I do know Jonathan Strickland, who won the CultTVMan Best Scifi Vehicle award at the Atlanta regionals, won either a third or honorable mention, thus keeping the tradition alive!

The raffle had lots of good prizes, and was run very efficiently.  All in all the Gastonia show was a well run, nice local contest.
